F A N G X I A N G
Fang Xiang (b. 1967) recently won the Silver Award in the most prestigious 9th National Fine Arts Competition sponsored by the China Ministry of Culture and the Chinese Artists Association.
Mr. Lin Yun, Director of the Guangdong Fine Arts Academy described Mr. Fang Xiang's art work that will give you a feeling of warmth and tranquility. Mr. Fang's unique technique uses ink water splashes on handmade rice paper. The wetting and drying process is repeated, layer upon layer, to achieve a casual, yet softly washed background.
His works are colorful, vibrant, exquisitely detailed, and unobtrusively populated by cats, birds, and chickens, this painted world inexorably attracts observers with its palpable serenity, stated in an editorial in Chicago Magazine, April 1998.
